Supporting our Country & How you can too
Our beautiful home is burning and our hearts are broken. Our thoughts are with the communities, families, animals and homes have been lost or affected by these devastating fires. This is a time where Australians, and the world need to combine forces to do all we can to help those who need us. Please see below some of the ways you can do your bit to help, however great or small a contribution you can manage, every bit counts.
1. SHARE
Raising awareness of the catastrophic situation that is currently devastating much of Australia is crucial in making as much of an impact as possible. Share photos, videos, stories, articles, updates, anything you can to ensure that these messages reach as many people as possible and we can gain the support of as many people as we can. We all have a platform, now is the time that we need to use it if we can. Keep the conversation going.
2. DONATE FUNDS
There are so many places that you are able to donate directly if your current financial situation allows it.
3. DONATE GOODS
Givit provides a service where those in need can directly request specific items, and you are able to donate goods directly to them if you have something you are able to contribute. Click here for the link.
4. DONATE YOUR TIME
Volunteer your time to helping those working toward bushfire relief.
Most of the organisations listed above under 'Donate Funds' may also have pages on their website with information about how you can volunteer your time to help those affected by the bushfires.
5. SUPPORT
Support companies & organisations that are using their platforms to raise funds and spread awareness. If you are wanting to make a purchase over the next few weeks try to make a purchase that will also directly help those in need. It's a win win situation and a great way to contribute a monetary donation, since you will be purchasing something that you may have wanted or needed anyway.
@kerraleeshearer on instagram has compiled a list under this feed post with a lot of different brands who are donating funds generated over the next few days/weeks to the bushfire appeals. Click the link on her instagram handle to see the post.
Here at LÉ BUNS we will be donating 100% of profits from the sales of our Quinn Crop over the month of January to NSWRFS WILD LIFE RESCUE & RED CROSS AU evenly.
6. WRITE
Send a letter to your local member of parliament. @annarose_richards has written a beautiful, heartfelt and powerful letter demanding the government take action against climate change. You simply need to download the letter, fill in your own name and other information, then post it off. Our MP's job is to listen to the views of the public and be a representative voice in the Senate. The more we demand action, the more likely the message will get through to the senate to make real change. The link to Anna's letter is here.
7. PROTEST
To protest for drastic action against climate change. Attendance is an amazing way to show support if you are able to get to either of these events and march for change.
- FRIDAY JANUARY 10, 5:30PM, SYDNEY TOWN HALL
- TUESDAY FEB 4, 8AM, STEPS OF PARLIAMENT HOUSE, CANBERRA
Signing petitions on change.org. This one that we have linked is an urge for the Prime Minister to declare a national emergency. (click here) You can find lots of other ones that can show support for change on their website too.
